My Windows 8.1 machine was giving 'Failed to initialize connection
subsystem' messages this morning when trying to start a VPN connection
to campus.

It looks like the solution is to disconnect and quit the Anyconnect
application completely, then find the vpnui.exe application (probably in
Program Files (x86)\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client).

Right-click the application, and run the Compatibility Troubleshooter.
Use the 'Try recommended settings' option, and it should come back with
Windows 8. Try the Test Program button, and it should work again.

This is version 3.1.06073. I tried a fresh install, too, but the
adjustment is still needed.
