Yesterday a John Burroughs field trip found a number of interesting birds in the area from New Paltz south to SGNWR and Wallkill, NY.
Merlin - seen at the intersection of Tillson Lake Rd and Bruynswick Rd Red-headed Woodpecker - Lippincott Rd near Lippincott Manor (also Brown Creeper here) White-crowned Sparrow (at least 5 individuals) - Denniston Rd near end of Wallkill Valley Rail Trail Rough-legged Hawk (multiple) - SGNWR Bald Eagle - flyover at Blue Chip Farm and one distant flyby at SGNWR Common Goldeneye - Wallkill River at Lippincott Rd There are thousands of Canada Geese at Blue Chip Farm and if there aren't any Bald Eagles scaring them up they should be scanned for Cackling and Greater White-fronted.
