Hi Jack,
Many thanks for sharing this piece. I read it immediately upon receipt. Much of what the writer discusses touches on areas of which I know nothing or very littleβnot least being AEβs personal relationships. What did strike me is that the piece seems to be defining reckless and by implication βexcessβ by our 2020 standards. AE lived in an era where many risks were taken that would be wholly unacceptable in but a few years. Admittedly she lived toward the end of this time, but nevertheless stringent professionalism stood out more then than we today appreciate. Also, publicity-seeking and making money from risky (also ill-conceived and largely pointless) aviation ventures never really ceased (βriskyβ in both monetary and physical terms). We see this in the news every few weeks. Just adding some perspective. AEβs circumstances seem tragic, interesting, but not altogether exceptional. All the best, and thanks again, DW David Wardell (757) 561-0582 <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected] <https://wardell.us/url/b5s86> <https://wardell.us/url/s9qvz> From: Jack Keady via Mifnet <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, June 5, 2025 3:15 PM To: David Wardell via Mifnet <[email protected]> Cc: Jack Keady <[email protected]> Subject: [Mifnet π 72596] AE biography keady AE, of course stands for Amelia Earhart.
