Stephen,

I can't think of any specific request for this, but I'm sure its come up
before. Additionally, I've spent some time in the past thinking about it, even
putting together some mock-up/concepts. I do think this is the kind of forward
thinking we need on the Mifos product, to take it to the next level. Seems
like such a small arbitrary thing, but the potential for helping MFI staff with
their workflow could be big, especially when people are just starting to learn
how to use Mifos.

IE - it might be easier for them to get the message, with a link they can click
on to take them to the page they need to look at.

Some other advantages might be in helping managers and other staff not miss
pending work (ie, approving client and loan applications), or even reducing the
time navigating the application (its one thing to search for the client vs. the
application telling you exactly who to look at).

I also think there are some interesting ways to approach this. One approach
would be to create a simple rules engine that's attached to roles, so the
application knows what to prompt users with specifically. Even more
interesting might be to create a learning engine that observes the users
behavior and then starts making suggestions based on that - ie, it notices that
the role "branch managers" is often approving loans, or that a specific
individual is working with specific clients.

Really - its about making Mifos smarter.

If people are interested, could be fun to put together some concepts and a
possible functional spec - Might lead into an interesting volunteer led feature
enhancement in the future. Although I know there are some more pressing
features at the moment, it might be sexy enough to draw people's interest in
working on it.
