Hi Matt, yes, for US machines control is possible. We implemented this for the Telemed ultrasound system and it works well. The software structure is designed expandable, so new devices can be added by derving from general superclasses and so on. Of course we appreciate any contribution in this area and try to help as much as possible if required. I heard about some work on other API devices (maybe Terason, but I'm not quite sure) in the community but so far it's not clear if this will be contributed to the open source part of MITK.
At the moment the control structure is restricted to the US module. But of course we can think about generalizing this for video / open CV. We should definitely talk about this in detail soon if you are interested. By the way, if you only need the video stream from a webcam, etc. this is already possible via the OpenCVVideoSupport module (just in case anybody doesn't know) ...
