The spirit of the GPLv2 did allow for people to redistribute programs commercially. The entire point was for the code to still be available so that people can fix it.
If someone does rebrand and sell Mixxx what will happen inevitably is that they will have to fix bugs. The GPL will then give us grounds to force them to share their work with us. To make sure they cannot reuse skins and the logo all images should be placed under a CC license that is suited for such purposes.
