Anyway this puzzled me... lavplay was originally intended to play back MJPEG video in hardware, so decoding in software never happens (assuming the input is MJPEG video). Only later, we got interested in software playback (or playback of non-MJPEG video), which means decoding (and possible re-encoding to MJPEG on-the-fly). But it's still primarily intended as a hardware playback tool, that's where most of its code points to. The decoding part was never really implemented, neither was the re-encoding (though divxdec does something like that). lav2yuv, on the other hand, is just a decoding tool, so it works differently. ;-). Ronald -- Ronald Bultje <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Dear Ronald, Thanks for the explanation. Perhaps you (or the rest of the MJPEG group) will consider (software) playback/editing of DV video for a future release of LAVPLAY/LAVTRANS. I may try this (migrating your existing decoder code from LAV2YUV and/or using code from DV2JPG), but I haven't decided yet. Getting the audio and video to work together seems a bit tricky, though. Anyway, I think MJPEGTOOLS has a very good chance of becoming the standard video manipulation system for Unix/Linux systems. Much like PNM tools did for images in the past. I've already found it very useful to do things like DV->MPEG (eg, for VCD), extracting audio, etc. Thanks again, Richard ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Does your code think in ink?
