If the source material is interlaced, it's generally better to keep
it that way.

If the destination is an interlaced display (television) you have
little choice, at some point the information must be converted for
display on an interlaced display.  It all depends on where you want
that converstion to happen.

Most likely it was already interlaced at the source.  Therefore, it
is best to just maintain it interlaced at all stages of the game.
