It should (I think) be detected by mplex. If mplex doesn't give any warnings about buffer underruns, then it should be fine. If that's not the case, then mayba ask on the mjpeg-devel mailing list. It could also be a completely different problem - in the past I have had problems with certain types of DVD media where the first half of the disk would read fine, but the second half wouldn't.
