Actually, the preceding paragraph is about as incorrect as you can get.

The State of New Jersey has actually PRIVATIZED the motor vehicle inspection process.

The "state stations" are now run by a contractor (Parsons Technologies) and are not staffed by DMV employees for the first time in history.

Private inspection stations still exist, however the requirements for being a private station are such that you need to drop about 50 grand on new hardware and software plus training. (I have a buddy who bit the bullet on this one)
