I'm sure someone out there has had this problem before. Most A2's are older than mine so I cant be the only one Within the past 2 months both of the glass parts of my side view mirrors (glass part only) have fallen off.
The driver's side fell off first (and broke). It had been vibrating and shaking a little bit in the weeks before it went. I had assumed it was the whole mirror shaking or that it was the white outside cover (color matched mirrors...92 8V GTi) because the adhesive that holds that down has come loose too and it kind of flops around. but it looks like the adhesive that held the mirror onto the adjustable surface gave way and that caused the mirror to come loose and break.....I never would have imagined they were real glass........I dunno why, I just didnt. I bought a "replacement" piece of glass at my local auto parts store and stuck it on there with the provided adhesive tape, but the mirror isnt an exact fit. Yesterday the passenger's side mirror started really vibrating so I popped it out myself before it fell and broke. So I'm in the same position again......missing a mirror. Anyone have any ideas what I could use to attach the passenger side mirror again? Anyone know where I can get a replacement piece of glass for the driver's side? Would Potterman or Adirondak carry something like this or will I need to go back to the stealer?
