I had the dealer pull the head to see what the cause was (I know, bad move going to the dealer, but many of the local vw shops didn't want to touch my car with a ten foot pole once they found out it is a 16v). Anyway, there is a burnt exhaust valve in the #2 cyl. The dealer wants to charge me $1700 to repair it and replace the timing belt/tensioner and a few various seals that are leaking. I can not afford that and I think they are just trying to rip me off anyway. My question is this. I found a shop that will repair the head for me, but I still have to get the engine back together and running. How hard of a job would this be? If I bought a Bentley manual and took my time could I do it myself, or is it better left to a professional. I have pretty limited auto mechanic experience, but I can follow manuals good.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>If I can't figure out a way to fix this car without breaking the bank, I'm just going to try and sell it as is.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>Thanks,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>Jeff</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>88Gti (dead)</FONT></DIV></BODY></HTML> </x-html>From ???@???
