Well, I happen to know for a fact that there were 85 GTI 16V's (about 3 or 4
ever made), but they were never sold. My father had one (he worked for VW at
the time) on loan, and was going to take it to the Bugout in Virginia, but
they (VW) wouldn't let him. It was loaded down too-power leather Recaros,
p/w, a/c, etc etc. I believe that all of the 85 16V's were destroyed as per
US testing laws though. Pity, eh?
