This is what I've replaced so far:

Idle screw o-ring cleaned ISV oxygen sensor
Intake boots in-tank fuel pump
spark plugs fuel filter
most vacuum hoses air filter
battery cable posts cleaned throttle body
cleaned main ground points knock sensor

I've been told it may be the DPR or the knock sensor control unit, but these are
expensive and I don't want to replace them unnecessarily. If some of you have
more stuff to add to this list maybe we can narrow it down, and then I can
start getting in on the posts about tires, wheels, suspension, round headlamps,
etc...

I have got the same problem, no solution yet. Car's got a new knock
sensor, recent distributor, the hall sensor wiring has been replaced, PO
did lots of work on it trying to fix this but I don't have a list.

What have you tried fixing on yours?

Does anyone else have the same problem? Perhaps we can come up with the
solution by eliminating all the stuff everyone's tried.

One thing I've noticed, there's a pretty high incidence of strange,
hard-to-diagnose, intermittent problems with 16V A2 cars. Is this the bane
of these cars?
