Well, I got out to the car today to check my tranny fluid for
anything mysterious. For one thing, there wasn't much fluid in there
(yet I'd filled it 4 weeks ago), and for another the fluid that was
in there was riddled with metal bits. Bad. I went about looking for
the leak and eventually found a nice 1/4 inch hole near the top of
the transmission housing (just above the differential). Is this that
fabled self-machining problem?
Anyway, I'll be giving ND a call shortly to see what they can do for
me. I don't have anything near the time or facilities required to
remove the tranny and inspect it myself. With the limited
information I've given you, do you think this one can be rebuilt or
will I have to get a whole new box? How much can I expect to spend
for the new tranny and installation? I shudder to think...
