Tony,

I average 30-32 but it's 20/80 city/hwy. Most of the time I do 70-75 mph
except there's about 4 miles of bumper to bumper on the way home and my A/C
is on all the time. My car is a 1.8 , I don't know what is normal mileage
for a 2.0.

What are you guys doing to get 30 MPG?? I average
around 25 split 50/50 city/hwy. My MPG(1991 GLI)
averages in the low 20s. (I haven't used the a/c till
this week so thats not a factor). I have changed the
o2, plugs, cap, rotor, wires look fairly new
(eurosport), and the car runs very well otherwise. I
have 195-50-15s on the split bbs. I can't figure out
where the gas mileage is going. The car does run
fairly well. I did solder in the universal o2 is it
possible I botched it? I usually travel around 80mph
on the highway. Any ideas.

To the original poster: I'd try a good tune up.
Plugs, wires, cap & rotor, 02 sensor. After that I'd
check the timing and DPR current and that should set
you on the right track. My scirocco 16v gets 30MPG
with the 3.94 R & P no matter how hard I drive. (well
it may dip to 28MPG but is still much better).
