An MFA that reads " 'way lower" than the real mileage may have a vacuum leak
nearby; mine showed around 11 -12 mpg when it had the hose come loose under
the dash (bitch to see, reach, find, but once restored to its correct place,
MFA reads about 30 - 31 mpg, while actual is 28 - 29).

Mark,
My mileage is based on miles traveled. My MFA reads way lower.

I would suggest to all of you that if you are quoting your mileage
based on the MFA display, you should check your numbers at the pump
based on miles/gals. I get numbers like 30-35mpg on the MFA... what
that means is I have a major vacuum leak. My actual mileage is about
26, which I think is too low.
On a slightly related note, I just spoke to a mechanic friend who,
after mentioning my melted cat, said the real problem was the
California gas with the MTBE (or whatever it's called). I wonder if
this stuff could be messing with oxygen sensors too?
