thats a decent idea.  you might not be able to get an entire dowell in
the face of the crank hose though.  i dunno.  thats worth looking into. 
i think other than just getting a 2.0, adding material to the worn down
slot on the crank nose and then remachining the slot is probably one of
the best ways to go.  even if you dont machine the slot absolutely
correctly, you can still find true TDC by the flywheel, so you can still
time your car perfectly.  

remember that it is IMPERATIVE that you torque the pulley bolt
properly.  i didnt the first time, and ended up wrecking my first
replacement crank pulley.  i did the second time, and it worked fine.

yep.  BTDT... you gotta have the tranny out though, so you might as well
replace the clutch while youre at it.  lightenend flywheel too.
