I have a 88 Jetta that I am trying to sort of fix up. This was my kids car
which he almost ruined farting around with stuff he didn't understand. I am in
process of fixing it up for possible sale, kid is off to the east coast working
and gave me his Jetta. I looks pretty good in dark blue but has the
unattractive chrome trim pieces on the bumpers and the door handles. Question
is: Has anyone blackened out the chrome trim on these regular A2 trim
packages? What procedures were used and what type of semi-gloss paint to use?

I am thinking that light sanding and priming would be helpful to help paint
stick but I don't know. I don't want to just half-ass it, I want something
that will last. I suppose the bumper trim pieces can be removed but this may
look tacky. Small Euro bumpers would be nice but I can't find a source for the
rear bumper on Jettas - anybody?
