if you have a floor jack and jack stands, having a lowered car doesnt really make any difference. if you dont have them... > 1. separate the trans from the engine while still mounted, I save having to > mess with the CV's, and pull only the engine out you'll still need to remove the CV's. regardless of which way you want to do it, its easiest to remove the driveshafts first thing. people dont like this method, but ive found it very quick and easy, especially if youre by yourself, and especially if you dont have air tools. ive dropped and engine from up top, raised an engine from down below, slid an engine in from the front, and disassembled/reassembled everything while in the engine bay, and my favorite and fastest way is taking everything out of the car piece by piece. (dropping the engine in with a hoist would be my next choice...much less shadetree, but reqiures more than shadetree tools) in the end, you do all the same things you would doing it any other way, just at different times. you also dont need to mess with the manifold or the downpipe bolts. big bonus. you also get to torque against the car. > 2. pull both out together, separate the trans, mate it to the new engine and > then drop it all back in place to do it this way you need to jack the car WAY up in front or have an engine hoist to come from above. or you can rip the front end off the car, which is a PITA if your a/c is charged. ben _____________ List Sponsor: http://www.netsville.com To remove yourself from this list, send mail to [email protected] with 'unsubscribe a2_16v' in the body of your message See us on the web at http://www.a2-16v.com Visit the 16V Homepage at http://www.gti16v.org
