Unfortunately, the replacement part that is used in the recall is the exact same part that failed in the first place.
Adirondak sells all metal core replacements. I believe one is made from copper and the other is aluminum. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Fli GLi Sent: Tuesday, December 17, 2002 7:14 PM To: DocWyte; [email protected] Subject: RE: [a2-16v-list] Re: Heater Core Replacement? If the part wasn't defective, why recall it then? Overall, the design of the part was inferior for it's application. VW experienced heavy failing of the part due to this poor design. It recalled the part. To me, this would classify the part as defective? They aren't replacing with exactly the same heater cores, are they? The fact that my particular heater core made it as long as it did, provided it's the original, is strictly statistical. Normally, in any production operation putting out good parts, there were be statistically allowable number of defective parts. The supplier of heater cores at that time was running the reverse scenario, providing bad parts with the odd good one getting through. Overall, the parts were defective. I bought my '91 GTI 16v new. VW recalled ALL the heater cores at that time and replaced them. _______________________________________________ a2-16v-list mailing list [email protected] http://mail.a2-16v.com/mailman/listinfo/a2-16v-list For list archives, see listinfo link above.
