My GTI was broken into a couple of months ago, and I am just finally getting around to fixing it now.
The jackasses that stole my radio (who also pryed in both door handles, the trunk lunk, and cut my battery cable) obviously ripped out the dash bezel/trim piece surrounding the radio and heater, as well as the gauge cluster. Not realizing the Golf version and the Jetta version were different, I grabbed one on eBay for about $10. Turns out I bought a Jetta version, or a German Golf version, as it is very nicely made, older looking, and doesn't fit my GTI dash (Westmoreland PA made). I've played around with it, and tried to get it to fit by clearing out everything that would block the piece from squeezing in there. But, it looks like it is sized slightly differently and does not sit flat in the dashboard. Questions: Am I crazy? Are there different small variations of the dashboards between German/Mexico&US cars? Anyone have a GTI trim piece/dash bezel laying around they want to sell? How much do they go for at the dealer? As usual, thanks for any help. Denis G. 1987 GTI 16v 2008cc 3.94rp 2001.5 A4 1.8tqmsxc http://vw.dpgoldman.com
