Denis,
 You are indeed correct that they are different. I also tried to replace the
trim/moulding around the cluster about a year ago and came across the same
thing. Don't know how much at a dealer but I ended up getting one in perfect
condition at a salvage yard for about $10.  After I got the wrong one the
first time I took what I had left of the original with me,(especially the
part around the instrument cluster)
