Mark,

With all due respect....

I rec'd your first email regarding the valve springs at 6:57PM ET on 1/22.
Got the second one at 10:35PM.
Got the third one at 10:48PM.

You have to give people a chance to respond! Don't get me wrong, I am very
psyched to see this list rising from the dead, and am even happier to see
some of the original posters posting again (like yourself, and numerous
others) who have been on here as long as me (~ 1997).

Anyway, back to the subject at hand..
.
I am definitely not an automotive engineer, but I would have to think going
with diesel springs is not going in the right direction. I am not sure if
stiffer is necessarily better - yes, they eliminate or reduce float, but
they definitely should cause more power loss in the valvetrain (harder for
the cams to push open the valves). Who knows, you might even go through
lifters a little bit faster as well. I think that unless your 16v is reved
that high (8k rpm), if it is even producing any 'real' power up that high in
the powerband, it might not be worth it. I have the Autotech 16v camset,
and I still end up shifting around 6500, no higher.

Then again, you do work at a dealer, and they'll cost next to nothing to get
for you, so I would say that if you are completely redoing the head (juicy
cams, good p&p work), then go for it as there is no better time.

Just my $0.02.

Regards,
Denis G.
