Ive see times, as well, where the teeth have bee stripped off a section
of the belt, the belt not break, and still be in place, as well as
tight, but wouldnt turn with the crank..
Hence my suggestion to turn the engine over by hand, while looking at
the rotor button/distributor shaft for rotation.. ;)

On the topic of your timing belt, as said, take off the upper timing belt
cover. If you dont see a belt wrapped around the pulley, theres a good
chance it broke. How many miles do you have on the car? have you ever had
the timing belt replaced before?
