Interesting - I always match the part number for the computer but didn't 
realise that the Knock Sensor Control Unit had to match as well.  It makes 
sense that the A/T units would be different from the M/T units but didn't 
realize there was such a difference between model years.  Time to go back and 
"catalog" my collection...

Then again, I've been on VW Vortex as of late where the proper response to your 
post would have been:

"NFW - you don't know s**t about VWs, yo.  My friend, who works on cars, says 
that you're full of s**t because he's swapped all kinds of boxes around before 
without any change.  The best fix that me and my buds found is to ditch that 
CIS-E crap and go Megasquirt b/c CIS-E is just plain junk.  When I get my 
Megasquirt system running on my 2.0, I'll smoke your car on the street"
