Actually, with today's technology, it should be possible to take a few dozen digital photographs of a single car from multiple angles, and use software to convert them into a single pointcloud file. That file could feed the printer its instructions, but in reality, there WOULD need to be a manual step to simplify by turning some fuel lines, exhaust, etc. into part of their background pieces. I'd guess that most of the bottom view could be done using the ordinary Golf, perhaps with some manual revision, since that must already exist as an electronic file.

There are many 3D printing service companies:

Check this out - someone made a small bumper 16V Sketchup Model:

We could probably hire this same guy to make a big bumper US spec one. I am
assuming you are all referng to a 1991 or 1992. I guess the 92 is the
ultimate representation of the big bumper 16V.

Someone made a 1/24 scale model many years ago but it was a Euro model with
small bumpers and round headlamps. It's still at my parents' house, unfinished
because I ran out of time/patience about 20 years ago. As I age, hobbies such
as model building suit my sedentary lifestyle BUT the parts are getting so damn
small and fuzzy that I can't see them.

Speaking of 3D printer models, I watched a show on how they work and the concept is
incredibly cool. That'd be awesome to have a GTi 16v model produced in that
manner, especially one in Hemi Orange with the Stars & Bars on the roof but I
digress.

I have never seen an accurate model of a GTI 16V anywhere in any size or
material.

Seems to the companies want to reuse their Golf molds and just tack on the
round lights and call it a day.

I wonder what it would cost to get one made by a 3D printer, maybe we can all
work together to gather the schematics and chip in to hire someone to put them
together to had all the parts be 3D printed.
