I wasn't dissing gentoo! (imo it's a great distro) I just had the impression (the wrong one!) that it was dieing :P
Anyways, yes I agree that any article should feature a debian(ubuntu) method of approach however we musn't forget other distro (especially) rpm based ones that are also the favorite target of many newbies to try out first time. Thus any examples given in articles should either be as distro-agnostic as possible, or else 1 rpm example and 1 debian(ubuntu) example. Even though I love ubuntu to peices, I am quite sensitive to the current trend were beginner are thinking that ubuntu = linux, were infact ubuntu is a distribution that uses the linux kernel..
