Hi all,
just a quick note that after asking around, I am not aware of any Linux/UNIX
courses currently being offered at the University of Malta.
Naturally, if no IT graduates push Linux at their place of employment, it is
obvious that Linux demand will remain low, and hence no one will do anything
about it (for those who mix up open source with Linux: many open source
programs also run perfectly fine on Windows: Linux is not equal to Opensource!).
I suggest that MLUG carries out an industry survey to gauge the level of demand
for Linux in the local industry. The Ministry of IT maintains a list of IT
companies online so you can start off from there.
This survey data would be invaluable since most arguments about Linux, without
any objective, scientific backing data will in general be ignored. MLUG does
need to get data from a properly conducted industry survey regarding demand for
Linux.
Finally a quick disclaimer: these views are personal and do not necessarily
reflect the opinion of the University of Malta as a whole.
Regards,
Angelo Dalli
