Here's a quick look at what we'll be focusing on for the Fx35 Nightly Cycle:
* Search Activity/Widget: The team spent some of the Fx34 cycle getting milestone v0 finished and enabled the Search Activity and Widget in Nightly. Since then we have been collecting feedback and working on bugs. For Fx35, we intend to focus on the what's needed to start riding the trains, meaning we intend to ship something in Fx35. Checkout the project page [1] for more information, including milestones and bug lists. Primary tasks are: Focus on the MUST HAVE items required for shipping, and continue to smooth the rough edges of the core functionality. * Tablet Refresh: Substantial work happened during the Fx34 cycle. The team is ready to start landing some parts from the HG branch back into mozilla-central. They are using build flags and have the new code paths behind a preference as well. We DO NOT expect the tablet work to start riding the trains yet. The Fx35 cycle will focus on some design iterations as the UX team start looking back at the tablet work. You will be able to enable some of the new tablet UI in Fx35 though, but it will likely remain limited to Nightly. For more information, see the project page [2]. * MLS/Stumbling: Additions to Fennec that allowed people to opt-in and post location-data to the Mozilla Location Service (MLS) landed late in Fx34. We are giving it time to bake and will look to ship it in Fx35. Stumbling requires an Android Permission change so Fennec can access more detailed WiFi information. This data is only accessed if you opt-in to stumbling, but Android being Android, we require asking for the permission on install regardless. This means the Fx35 will be a PERMISSION BUMP release. If any other features are being discussed and require a permission change, consider riding along. We like to batch permission changes because of the negative affect it has on auto-upgrades. * Reducing APK Size: Large APK size has been linked to failures to install (network cutting out) and lack of desire to install (no space left on device). We are looking at two sub-projects to help reduce APK size: Minifying JavaScript in the Omnijar bundle and Splitting the APK based on Device and Android API level. See the project page for more info [3] * Reorganize the Settings Structure: We are evaluating feedback and UI Telemetry to start a small restructuring of the Settings layout. * Speed Dial Panel: We are considering whether to add a Home Panel that is more "speed dial" oriented. Smaller tiles with simple logos, easy to tap and launch. Smaller tiles mean we can show more of them. This is in the very early UX design stages. * Focusing on Fx34 projects: Share Handler and Lightweight Onboarding both landed in Fx34, but still need some polish and quality fixes to be uplifted. We will continue to improve these features so they can ship in Fx34. Please refer to the Roadmap [4] for more details and status updates throughout the cycle.
