Uh ... why aren't you syntax-validating the actual HTML output by your application? Compile from source. Your problem is almost certainly due to FreeBSD's weird installation of Perl, specifically its library paths. The best solution I've found is to create a new user 'perl' and install Perl and all libraries etc under that user's home directory.
