On HP-UX for PA-RISC, version 11.00/11.11 you need to install patch
PHSS_29484/PHSS_29485 if you use HP C to compile mod_perl 1.99_11.
Interestingly enough, Perl 5.8.2 builds and tests fine without the patches.
These patches are for the HP ANSI C compiler and are not needed if you use GCC. The patches are for PA-RISC only and not applicable to IPF (Itanium) systems.
Thanks Jan,
What would be the best wording for the item to be added to our troubleshooting section at:
http://perl.apache.org/docs/2.0/user/troubleshooting/troubleshooting.html#Building_and_Installation
Should I just copy-n-paste your explanation above or can it be expanded to make it easier for potential users?
Feel free to cut-n-paste or mangle as you see fit. Here is an alternative way of putting it:
When building mod_perl 1.99 on HP-UX for PA-RISC architecture 11.00/11.11,using the HP ANSI C compiler, please make sure you have installed patches PHSS_29484 and PHSS_29485.
Is that easier to understand?
I'm not an HP-UX user, so I'm not the one to judge whether the wording is good or not, that's why I've asked you to formulate it the best way you think of ;). Earlier you've mentioned versions 11.00/11.11, are they important?
When building mod_perl 1.99 on HP-UX for PA-RISC architecture, version 11.00/11.11, using the HP ANSI C compiler, please make sure you have installed patches PHSS_29484 and PHSS_29485.
