My experience has been that even the best JavaScript tools (Firebug) are pretty weak compared to the Perl dev environment, and cross-browser problems are an ongoing issue, despite the wealth of JS libraries intended to paper over them. Maybe Flex has these problems too, but in theory the cross-browser stuff could be better. It also sound nice to use a dev tool that was actually intended for GUI programming, rather than the bolted-on feel of JS + CSS + HTML. - Perrin
