You will have to drive it in the middle of the night with the bonnet off,
Les strapped to the front bumper looking into the engine bay and do brisk
anti-clockwise laps of a roundabout then!

Philip, Elton, Graham, Adrian,

Many thanks for your replies. I don't have the Landy here at the moment, it
is doing heavy work with its Sankey trailer moving building materials at our
sons new home. At lower driving speeds whilst towing the problem doesn't
show up. Once I can get my hands on it I'll look into the electrics
suggestions. In a telephone conversation yesterday evening he did say when
asked that it tends to die and return very sharply, not in a spluttering
fuel starving way, so maybe it is electrical?

The fuel pump is a fairly recently fitted new one and seems fine with no
line leaks. I set the floats as per the manuals (33mm). The Zenith suffers
badly from the sometimes poor fit of the large O-ring but this one being new
seemed fine on assembly.

I'll take a look and let you know what I find out, maybe I disturbed
something ignition related when I fitted the replacement carburettor? I need
to drive it myself to get a feel for the problem.

Thanks again for your thoughts,

Lawrence

The Zenith 36IV is a bit agricultural, and very prone to flooding due to
wear on the float pivot, but I've found them mostly free from
eccentricities. From 20 years plus experience with Froggie and the Flying
Breezeblock, as well as military LRs before them, I think I'd suspect
something electrical shorting out when a frayed wire (or perhaps one with
melted insulation) swings out on the turn to left. Does it happen on sharp
left turns as well?

Philip

Only problem I ever had with a Zenith was when the float valve stuck closed.

A sharp tap with a hammer sorted that.

Does it happen every time turning onto a roundabout?

Lawrence,

I have been driving series trucks (and Morgans) for years. I would have to
guess that the problem you are describing is related to fuel level in the
carb. You might also want to make sure your fuel pump is furnishing enough
to keep the level up. If you are running ok at road speed and with a load,
likely the fuel level is the problem. All that said I have never used the
aftermarket Zenith, so it may have problems I'm not familiar with. Good
luck!

Elton
