In my early motoring days back in the fifties, I was a staunch MG fan. That proud square radiator of the P types and the later T`s were the bee knees for me. Never thought much about Morgans. And then in later years I was smitten by Alfas,a 2000 Spider, several GTV`s but they were so expensive, always something major when they went belly up. Then 10 years ago a 4/4 in Yorkshire caught my eye and I eventually bought it and 50000 miles later we are still together. Just had a brilliant weekend with our local Historic Wheels Club here in Morayshire culminating with our best Rally ever at Brodie Castle with over 300 entries. In the heat today quite exotic makes were falling over with fuel vaporisation problems but my little 4/4 never missed a beat and had admiring comments all day. Even Owen was there ! At 77 I may be a boring old fart but this car keeps me young. Cheers all Ron. ----- Original Message ----- From: Tim Harris To: mogtalk2 Sent: Sunday, August 12, 2012 5:17 PM Subject: Re: [mogtalk2] RE: Chips - non mog- now Old F-rts
That would be interesting. I fell in love with Morgans when I was around 25, but it was another 15 years before I could afford to buy one. I guess that makes me fairly new to them, I bought mine 12 years ago. Looking around at all who came along to Brands Hatch Morgan's breakfast today, I guess the average age of a Mog driver (and navigator) must be in the late 50s. Has anyone a more accurate figure? The cheapest I remember was 3d for chips and 6d for fish. An Auntie of mine remembered 1/2d for chips and 1/2d for fish. 'French Fries' were invented in Wiltshire because they had the Devizes to Chippenham. Battered fish were introduced by the Jewish Community in London. Chips were first made in Lancashire using cotton seed oil. Brian of SpotMog On Thu, Aug 9, 2012 at 10:26 AM, <[email protected]> wrote: Chips are a rip off these days. You can easily pay a £ or more for a normal portion. It’s not all that long ago since “standard” price for chips was 6d (2½ p). You also got chips in newspaper (, but with fresh white paper between the chips and newsprint). This probably kept costs down a bit. Now I suppose “health and safety” nonsense has helped with the changes and price rises. All those horrible polystyrene trays have to be paid for………. TC David (getting old and grouchy).. Oh well.
