Tom, I'm not sure there ever was a "standard" bow eye. Most Montys I've seen don't have them. The former owner of my boat installed one about 5" down from the deck, at about the bottom of the sheer stripe. Works well for the winch on my trailer, and is handy to reach from the deck. Tie your anchor line here, and you don't have to worry about chocks or abrasion from your toerail!
By the way, when I want to anchor from the bow, I first deploy the anchor from cockpit. Then tie my bow line to the anchor line, at least 15' from the end. (I have to find the right hitch for this.) I keep the bitter end of the anchor line secured in the cockpit, both for security and for retrieval. When it is time to raise the anchor, I just haul on the anchor line until the bow line comes aboard and I can untie it from the anchor line. Never have to go forward.
