My 1981 has shallow lockers on both sides. I scooped a cockpit nearly full one time. The lee seat locker was half full, but no more than a cup full splashed into the cabin. Fortunately, the water was flat and it drained out in the time it took to run a man-overboard drill and pick up my hat and bag of garbage.

You have an 82; the port locker in my 83 M15 came that way- port locker is open; starboard is an enclosed storage area. I suspect your 82 may have come that way also.
