If one uses replaceable LED packed light bulb sockets you have the benefit  
of the low-draw LED and the convenience of easy replacement WITHIN the fixture. 
 I am sure the LED "bulb socket hybrid" may not necessarily be as light 
output  effective due to output or diffusion.
 
LED bulb socket hybrids have been used for years in the auto market  
(after-market).
 
If they can be replaced without replacing fixture - sounds like a winner to  
me!
If not - I am for good old school incandescents on the trailer. And  
electrically disconnect the vehicle from the trailer when immersing the  
trailer.
