Forgive my long windedness, but maybe this will help someone else in resurrecting another good old boat.
Montgomery Lovers: I have begun in earnest to refurbish my $400 M-10. The pictures will follow later. Jerry Montgomery has helped me deal with the missing mast situation. He thought he had a spare, but it is AWOL. So, I am fabricating a new one from local materials (with his advice Thanks Jerry!). I have a history of seeing the possibilities in neglected boats, cars, etc., and really enjoy bringing them back to former glory. The previous owners daughter who sold me the boat really wanted to know if I would love it? Well, it will get a LOT of love, but the result will be pretty amazing, and worth it, I believe. The boat sat on the previous owners beach for a long time. It has 3 or 4 patch jobs, and a couple of 1/8 holes in the bilge/chine area. I am going to cut through the seat wall and fiberglass from inside. Then install a couple of Beckson cover plates to make it look nice. The paint on the hull is atrocious and RED. Severely weather checked, and flaking off. I have already knocked off the first layer, and will take it down all the way to gelcoat. Then I will fair, fill, and prime with System 3 sandable primer. Final color will be System 3 LRU TAN, I think. With new Cetol on the teak, I think it should be gorgeous. I have ordered new lines and blocks, as the originals are in very sad shape (UV, I guess). The mast section is available locally for less than $100. Boom and gaff are in great shape, and the sail just needs cleaning. It is off to http://www.sailcare.com <http://www.sailcare.com/> today. I hauled the boat home in my truck, but that is not going to keep her nice for launching and storage, so I decided to find a trailer. Gotta love Craigsist! I found a nice little boat trailer for $150 across town, and brought it home last night. I will pick up a cover when the boat is near completion. Prognosis - Heres my projected cost list: Boat $400 Trailer $150 Epoxy, fiberglass, paint, Cetol $250 Rigging $250 Sail cleaning $100 Miscellaneous stuff $100 TOTAL $1250 More to follow!
