Checking the fine print of the proposed PayPal settlement, I see that the lawyers are scheduled to receive about 40% of the 9.2 million settlement amount. That's going to leave only about 5 million for individual claims, to be spread around perhaps a couple of million people who will file a claim.

Those who did a lot of business with PayPal -- and those who had the accounts "frozen" for a while -- will be in line for the significant pieces of that. My guess is that the "average" PayPal user will only see a few bucks at most, maybe a year from now.

If that's worth it for you to jump through all of their form-filling hoops, go for it. Me, I'm not going to bother -- although I do applaud the action that was taken against PayPal to stop them from pulling the kind of arrogant, shoot-the-seller-first-and-never-bother-to-ask-questions-later stunts they had become infamous for.

To bad there isn't a law against the outrageously high transaction fees they charge -- and the bogus extra charge they add on to receiving payments from outside the US of A.
