Oh there's no getting around this. For a month now, almost every
"conversation" I've had by e-mail with a friend or business associate using
AOL has stopped COLD. Long exchanges lasting weeks have been left hanging
-- with no way of "picking 'em back up" unless I happen to have a phone
number of the person with whom I'm writing. And THESE AOL pals think I'm
ignoring them. I may be rude, but not THAT rude.
AOL remains on a crusade to trumpet its parental controls feature, as well
as the prohibition of spam. The problem has now escalated whereby unless
AOL can reach a business or legal agreement with other ISPs about
controlling "abusers" in the same way it polices its own subscribers -- I've
heard that competing ISPs who are "not in line" are NOW automatically
blocked.
The only way this will EVER be corrected is if more AOL subscribers clamor
for greater freedom to pick and choose their own "safe" lists, the way my
enhanced Hotmail account does presently. Junk spam gets reported, but
results only in the ban of the actual e-mail address in question. It
doesn't blacklist an ENTIRE domain. Hotmail has now been additionally
enhanced with a notice attached to all e-mails are sent by a list server,
e.g., along the lines of "the sender ID of this e-mail could not be
verified."
