MessageI've had friends that have lived on Hollywood and Wilcox for the last 15 years. The area has changed so drastically in that time it's hardly the same place. The first thing is parking. It's a nightmare.
The rent for apartments have increased nearly 300 percent in that time. And this is for crappy apartments. They Disneyfied Times Square they'll do it to Hollywood and Vine. You'd think the restoration group responsible for revitalizing Hollywood and Vine would have considered leasing some of the property to dealers in vintage Hollywood memorabilia so as to preserve some of Hollywood's past. I have no problem getting rid of some of cheap wig stores and the crappy souvenir stores that line the avenue but Hollywood Blvd. will lose its character if it simply hosts Nike shops and Banana Republics. It will begin to look like Times Square in New York. I stopped by today and it looked as though they were in the process of cleaning it out. I know there was a fire on the block not long ago. I don't know if the two were related.
