I never saw this before. Originally theater owners were supposed to return distribution posters but many did not. I don't recall if that extended into the 1980s. If it did, then it's the case of the pot calling the kettle black since it was not rightfully owned by the theater to begin with. Since you acquired them legitimately, I would just go ahead and sell the posters. FRANC
