Sue,

I don't think that Ebay is truly attempting to show buyers that Ebay is a satisfying purchasing venue. Instead they would LOVE it if Sellers increase their item prices to cover S/H.

I believe that Ebay knows and wants Sellers to be adding the difference in shipping and materials costs to the price of the item as it positively affects their bottom line. It may seem like small change, but it is a way for Ebay to gain more in listing and final value fees which they could not get as shipping costs are added separate to the money's paid for the item and thus those added S/H dollars have not been within their grasps. But if they make a 'standard' shipping cost and make it appear to be fair in a 'one size fits all' approach, the end result is Seller's add $5 or $30 to an expensive insured or overseas item and that $5-$30 added to the item instead of to S/H is adding money in Ebay's pocket as Sellers increase the costs of their items which equates to Sellers (once again) paying more in fees to Ebay for what was once S/H fee which they couldn't grab.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this certainly seems like a 'found money' situation and an end resulting profit for Ebay.

I am hoping there will be enough of an uproar over this that Ebay will have to alter their thinking. I got the same alert message for the album cover frames I ship. Ebay had instructed me a year or so ago that my album cover frames could be listed in the Music category under "accessories" and that is how I have been listing them. My alert message is that the maximum shipping for that category will be $5 beginning in October. There is no way I can ship a custom made album cover frame for $5. The custom box and shipping materials cost me about $3 just by themself before I even ship it, not to mention that I ship fully insured at my expense. I keep getting the "shipping message" on my larger frames also. I ship a full size movie poster frame to anywhere in the country for $14.95. It costs me considerably more than that, so I am already absorbing part of that shipping charge. There is no way it can go any lower on a single frame and we ship for free on multipacks.

In their attempt to "show" buyers they are doing everything to make Ebay a "satisfying" purchasing venue, they are forgetting about who pays the bills. Sellers need to be taken care of also. That is evidenced by the number of sellers, many major sellers, that have left Ebay. I have spoken to several sellers who have said they will add the difference in the actual cost of shipping from the maximum amount Ebay is allowing to the price of their item. I guess that is one way to circumvent the situation. I suppose if everyone had to do that it would level the competition field. But then is that really a fair deal to the buyer, especially one that might be picking up their item in person and wouldn't be paying any shipping. That is a common occurence for me in Los Angeles for my particular product.

I can't imagine what they are thinking. Also, I have another thought. How can something being sold at a fixed price be called an auction? Auction denotes to me "bidding" going on.

So,
I must have missed this one...
I'm revising my CGC'd monster magazines (have to update thanks to their so-called new and improved image-hosting... sure the NEW pics look a little bigger, but the OLD pics shrank!?!?!) anyway, after revision, I got this new alert:

Attention Sellers:

        Attention Seller!
Starting in October, the maximum shipping cost in this category will be $4.00. You'll be asked to enter a shipping cost less than or equal to this cost for the first U.S. flat rate shipping service. Get a head start on these changes by updating your shipping costs for this listing

I am using the Magazine Back-Issue category... Now, legally, there is absolutely NO WAY that I can send a CGC'd magazine to ANYONE in the United States... can't legally use magazines for Media Mail, so it's either Parcel Post or Priority

Any Poster sellers getting this one, too?

Kenwick
