I totally BOTCHED Bruce's poll -- my vote in his club poll was cast early on -- and I didn't READ his criteria thoroughly. My vote(s) for best original songs written for ANY film (whether drama, comedy or straight-out musical) -- were "Moon River" and "As Time Goes By." Now that I understand the criteria -- I would pick "Edelweiss," "Over the Rainbow" and "Singin' in the Rain," in that order. "Edelweiss" has multiple meanings for most people beyond its "Sound of Music" roots. It was the last song -- in the last musical -- that Oscar Hammerstein ever wrote while suffering from inoperable stomach cancer.
