Ebay will NEVER be Amazon because they have completely different models. Amazon provides excellent customer service. Ebay provides none. FRANC

So, besides blaming it all on the recession, what do they decide to do about it? They decide to limit sellers to $4 shipping on certain common items! Brilliant! Particularly when the minimum to ship by the most popular method -- Priority Mail -- is now $5. It's obvious this ploy is something they plan to extend to other items as well, in some desperate attempt to show users "they care". While this won't hurt the bulk sellers of cheap import items who run essentially run fixed-price buy it now stores (they often include "free shipping" in their price), it is yet another blow at the individual collectible seller or garage sale-type person trying to sell unique items through Ebay... items which often require different shipping options, weight and packaging considerations. Ebay has decided it wants to be like Amazon. What it doesn't seem to realize is that there already is an Amazon and they haven't a prayer of beating them at their own game. What made Ebay famous was, of course, was that for many years it was the best site out there for *real* auctions. But they have been trying to kill that part of their business for a long time now and keep coming up with ingenious ways of doing it. Imagine what they could be if they spent as much time and effort figuring out how to *encourage* the real auction sellers. -- JR Claude Litton wrote: This is one of the two major problems with ebay and ebay is too stupid to recognize what this has done to the collectibles market. By making it virtually impossible to contact other people, they prevent righteous persons from warning others of fraud or mistakes. It also does not allow us to uncover shill bidding by sellers. These have definitely put a serious dent into the poster market and no doubt, into other antique items. Ebay is too preoccupied with making money and "protecting" itself against off-ebay transactions. I believe it has cut down on transactions and the profit margin as well, but they can't measure this and therefore they wont remedy it. CJL In a message dated 12/26/2009 8:52:52 A.M.
