One poster that was definitely printed in both dayglo and regular ink was the British Quad for THE DEVIL RIDES OUT, the minor Hammer horror classic.

Apparently, the first printing was dayglo. I just bought another one of these, and while I have yet to receive it, on the photos it looks like the regular ink (second printing) version. :-(

As Kirby has pointed out already, dayglo inks are very easy to spot with the naked eye. They are a lot more FUN with a blacklight, though.

Paul,

Hello and Happy Holidays.  I'd have to echo what Helmut has said in that I couldn't say that all of them had this.  I believe that we have a few that do, but I'd have to look.  I think if you saw one, you'd have no trouble identifying it as having been printed with DayGlo inks.  DayGlo has a website, FYI.

Paul,

with DR. STRANGELOVE I am not sure if not all of the onesheets had the day-glo title. The one I have here certainly has it, and the UV makes it pop up and really stand out, which is quite a nice effect.

Hi Helmut, I know there is a version of the Dr. Strangelove 1-sheet that supposedly has a type of Day-Glo Title Treatment, would a black-light like the one you suggested easily identify it vs the non-Day-Glo title? What exactly would I be looking for to tell them apart?

All the best.

Sincerely,

Subject: [MOPO] UV Light

I recently bought a the 'UV Beast' blacklight on Amazon that fellow MoPo member Peter Contarino had recommended. As expected, it is exactly what I had been looking for, so thanks to Peter for the tip!

I mainly bought this in order to better identify teh amount of restoration in linenbacked posters, but I toyed around with this at the shop today, just before closing down. The lights were already turned off, so except for the UV light the shop was entirely dark.

I noticed that not only the title on my German Style B poster for BERLIN EXPRESS:

is in day-glo ink (not that big a surprise here), but also the title area and the orange top of the skull including the headphones on my SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL premiere poster:

More by coincidence, both are framed next to each other, but especially on the Stones poster the effect is quite amazing!

Just curious, is there anybody out there actually collecting day-glo movie posters?

Helmut
