Maybe what you want is Elliptical Fourier Analysis? It uses harmonics to
describe outlines and most stats programs will run it.

Dear morphometricians,
please, any suggestion about software for geometric morphometric analyses
of shapes without labelled landmarks? I mean something like potato chips
outlines, where there is no single 'homologous' landmark. I seem to
remember that there are methods for the analysis of outlines that, with
some limitations, can be used for this, and also extensions of
superimposition methods for unlabelled landmarks, but I know very little
about it and nothing on software availability.
