Don, the NYCEP Morphometrics Group resolved the first problem years
ago with the program DVLR (dorsal-ventral-left-right fitting), which
you can find at http://pages.nycep.org/nmg/programs.html
As you already have 4 identical points in each view, this will work
fine, BUT you will need to copy each set of points to dummy points
(we call them O1-O4, for orientation points), as the program removes
them after fitting the two sides together. Further details are
provided in a file on the web page.
