My district adopted Houghton Mifflin after a lengthy and very collaborative
process last year. As a Title I reading teacher, I am very pleased with this
series and recommend it. There are many avenues for rich comprehension
instruction and for the reading/writing connection. The series also emphasizes
and
encourages center work that is open ended and constructive and isn't just a way
to do worksheets while moving around the classroom:) There is also
scaffolding built in so that the lower achieving readers are part of the big
picture
and have access to the "real" literature.

I had and have ambivalent feelings about using a basal or "core" series as I
guess we call it nowadays but overall I am impressed with HM.
